PODCAST LIST
Batman: Unburied - This was a podcast we listened to in class that started the initial ideas of doing a podcast related to crime and forensics. The podcast is a narrative story in the form on audio. Since the audience can't see what's happening the podcast relies on background music, sound effects, and the character's voice acting to help move the story along. It's a very high production podcast and sparked the idea to include voice acting in our podcast.
The Magnus Archives - This podcast goes for about 20 minutes for each episode. It's about a very groggy and tired man named Jonathan Sims going through and organizing the written statements of the Magnus Archives institute of the esoteric and supernatural. I believe this podcast's audience is people who are fans of fictional horror and creepypastas. The setup of firsthand statements feels like how creepypastas were formatted back in the early 2010s so the audience is roughly people between the ages of 16-35. I personally love this podcast because it has creepy themes and an aspect of Lovecraftian horror.
Solved Crimes - This was a podcast shown to me by my teammates. It's a podcast of two narrators retelling the story of crimes. The narrators narrate the crimes as it is but also act out the dialogues of the characters. The background music and sounds help elevate the mood of each "scene".
Tejana - is a story-style podcast about a female Mexican Texas ranger trying to solve the grimmest crimes in Texas. The podcast has a few themes of racism and misogyny since Eileen is a Hispanic woman working in the most racist and misogynistic job and state in the US. I finished the first two episodes since they're one story broken down but I couldn't continue it after that. The production is amazing and the acting is wonderful but the themes of discrimination were too hard to sit through as a brown girl myself. The crimes were very interesting but not enough to make me sit through Eileen having to deal with the men around her.
Trope Talk - Trope Talk is a podcast format YouTube playlist by Red from Overly sarcastic productions. It's a podcast that focuses on discussing the many many tropes and genres used in media. I have been listening to this podcast since it's debutted and it's really interesting to hear Red's breakdown on different tropes that I never noticed until watching the episode. It it a extremely niche topic however and I don't think many people enjoy listening to a 20 minute breakdown on a writing cliché.
