"Media regulation is failing everyone." How far do you agree with this statement? - Friends 2021
- The Chinese people aren't getting the information they need (bad pacing in eps less enjoyable)
- Lack of representation (Saying it's bad)
- Censor everyone who critics the censorships
With the rise of new media, regulation of content has been proven to have more power than most people anticipated. In China alone the regulation for what media is allowed for the general public can be considered cut throat by many. Leaving the Chinese audience missing key information, a lack of representation and freedom of speech. During the 2021 Friends Reunion the Chinese market gained interest to stream the show in China. However, many episodes of the show were either banned or heavily censored on Chinese streaming platforms. All the censorship of snippets of episodes leave the Chinese audience without the full context leaving them with a lower quality show. One of these streaming platforms is YouKu owned by the AliBaba group who censored many episodes including LGBTQ+ content and sexual jokes. An examples of this is in episode 11 of season 2 where the platform completely censored the lesbian relationship and wedding from the show to avoid exposing the Chinese people to LGBTQ+ representation. This lack of representation inadvertently fails the Chinese audience including those who identify as queer. Not only is the lack of representation discouraging but it also promotes the mindset that those kinds of people either don't exist or don't deserve to be acknowledged. Another way media regulation failed the Chinese audience is the censorships of critics regarding the heavily censored Friends episodes. Many people expressed distaste to the censored episodes in Weibo to the point it warranted it's own hashtag, However, the hashtag was removed from the platform days after it gained traction, showing that media regulation fails people by removing any sort of freedom of speech.
Analyze the ways in which contemporary media regulation reflections it period - Hamilton 2020
As time goes on and changes so do people and their morals, believes, and tolerances, due to this, what is allowed in media in the past may not be aired in the present. An example of this is the professional recording of the 2016 Broadway musical Hamilton aired on Disney+ in July 2020. The musical originally included a 1 minute song called The Adams Administration where the main character Alexander Hamilton reads out a letter critiquing president John Adams. The rap--which was the majority of the song--had to be cut because the contents were deemed too rude by the audience. In the Disney+ version along with future Broadway showings had to cut the rap to Hamilton yelling the last lyric of the rap before walking off stage. In the song "Yorktown" there is a part where Hercules mulligan yelled out the F-word in the climax of his solo. But due to it being a harsh word even for Broadway they cut it out for it to be aired on Disney+.

Media regulations can be proven difficult due to people being very unpredictable when consuming media. The main concern many media regulators of children's content is showing something dangerous that could be copied by kids and cause harm. When the 2002 animated Disney movie Lilo and Stitched debuted in 2019 on Disney+ there was a scene at the beginning of the movie that was edited. In the original movie Lilo was hiding in a dryer but in the Disney+ version the dyer was changed into a table with a pizza box. This change was done due to many years of children imitating Lilo by hiding in dryers and getting stuck. Over the years 2000 kids have gotten stuck in these machines and a few ended up passing away so to avoid any children putting themselves into danger the Disney company decided to change the scene.
